False Ceiling design ideas

A false ceiling hides AC pipes and wiring, but its real job is to shape the room and carry light. The best designs are simple, proportionate and planned together with the lighting.

  • A peripheral ceiling with a cove keeps the room tall in the middle.
  • Use moisture-resistant boards in kitchens and PVC in bathrooms.
  • Fix AC, chimney and lighting positions before the ceiling is framed.
  • Peripheral with cove — a border around the room with an indirect glow.
  • Recessed panel — defines a dining or seating zone.
  • Wooden slats or veneer — warmth on a feature section of the ceiling.
  • Flat ceiling with profile lights — minimal and modern.

False Ceiling design: your questions

Can’t find your answer? Ask our design team.

What is the minimum ceiling height for a false ceiling?

A peripheral false ceiling works comfortably in most rooms with a height of 9 ft or more. In lower rooms, keep it to a slim border or only where services need to be hidden.
