“How much will my interiors cost?” is the first question almost every homeowner asks us — and the honest answer is that it depends on three things: the size of the home, how much of it you want to design, and the finishes you choose.
This guide breaks those down with indicative 2026 budgets for homes in Ghaziabad, Noida, Delhi, Gurugram and the rest of NCR, so you can plan with clarity before you speak to any designer. For a figure tailored to your home, try our interior cost calculator.
Indicative budgets by home size
The ranges below are for complete interiors in a new apartment — modular kitchen, wardrobes, TV unit, false ceiling, lighting, painting and key loose furniture — using the same rates as our cost calculator. They are planning figures, not quotations.
| Home | Essential finish | Premium finish | Luxury finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 BHK | ₹3.5 – 4.5 lakh | ₹4.7 – 6 lakh | ₹6.3 – 8.1 lakh |
| 3 BHK | ₹4.5 – 5.8 lakh | ₹6.1 – 7.8 lakh | ₹8.1 – 10.4 lakh |
| 4 BHK / Penthouse | ₹6 – 7.7 lakh | ₹8.1 – 10.4 lakh | ₹10.8 – 13.8 lakh |
| Modular kitchen only | ₹1.5 – 1.9 lakh | ₹2 – 2.6 lakh | ₹2.7 – 3.5 lakh |
Essential finishes use durable laminates and quality hardware. Premium adds acrylic or veneer shutters, profile handles and designer lighting. Luxury brings natural stone, bespoke joinery and imported finishes. Most families we meet land between essential and premium, upgrading only the rooms they use most.
What actually drives the cost
Two 3 BHK flats in the same society can cost very differently to furnish. These are the factors that move the number most:
- Scope. Full-home interiors cost more than modular-only work (kitchen and wardrobes). Partial projects of two or three rooms typically cost about half of a full home.
- Board material. Boiling-water-proof (BWP) plywood costs more than MR-grade plywood or HDHMR, but is the right choice for kitchens and bathrooms. See our guide to plywood, MDF and HDHMR.
- Shutter finish. Laminate is the most economical; acrylic, PU paint and veneer cost progressively more. Our finishes guide compares them.
- Hardware. Soft-close hinges, tandem drawers, corner carousels and tall pull-out units add up quickly in a kitchen.
- False ceiling and lighting. A full gypsum ceiling with cove lighting in every room costs far more than a feature ceiling in the living room alone. See false ceiling costs.
- Civil and electrical changes. Moving a kitchen sink, adding points or rewiring old homes in Delhi builder floors adds cost that new flats usually avoid — see our old flat renovation guide.
Cost by room: where the budget goes
In a typical new 3 BHK, the modular kitchen and the wardrobes together account for roughly half of the interior budget, because they are built entirely to measure. Living rooms and bedrooms are lighter on joinery but carry the ceiling, lighting and furniture.
| Room | Starts from | Usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Modular kitchen | ₹1.5 lakh | Base and wall cabinets, counter, basic accessories |
| Master bedroom | ₹1.2 lakh | Wardrobe, bed back panel, side tables, lighting |
| Living room | ₹1.2 lakh | TV unit, feature wall, false ceiling, lighting |
| Pooja unit | On design | Mandir unit with storage, backlit panel |
Costs people forget to budget for
- GST. Check whether a quotation includes GST or adds it on top — it makes a real difference to the final figure.
- Appliances. Chimney, hob, built-in oven and dishwasher are usually priced separately from the kitchen cabinetry.
- Loose furniture and soft furnishings. Sofas, dining sets, mattresses, curtains and rugs are often outside a modular quote.
- Painting and polishing. Repainting after installation, and polish for any veneer or wooden surfaces.
- Society charges. Many NCR societies charge for interior work permissions, lift use or debris removal. Ask your maintenance office early.
- Contingency. Keep 5–10% aside for changes you decide on once you see the space taking shape.
Where to save, and where not to
A good designer helps you spend where it matters. Our rule of thumb:
Worth investing in
- Kitchen carcass material and hardware — they take the most daily wear.
- Wardrobe internals that match what you actually own.
- Good lighting design; it changes how every room feels.
Easy places to save
- Use laminate inside cabinets and a premium finish only on visible shutters.
- Limit the false ceiling to the living and dining areas.
- Phase decorative items, art and soft furnishings over the first year.
How payments usually work
Reputable studios link payments to project milestones rather than asking for most of the money up front. At AHU Interior the schedule is typically 10% to book, 40% when production begins, 40% at installation and the final 10% at handover — see our process for what happens at each stage.
