Possession day is exciting — and it is also when the most important decisions about your interiors are made. Thousands of families take possession of new flats across Ghaziabad, Noida Extension, Gurugram and the rest of NCR every year, and the ones who plan these first few weeks well save time, money and stress.
Use this checklist from the day you receive the keys to the day you move in.
Step 1: Inspect the flat before anything else
Do a careful snag inspection before any interior work begins, and share defects with the builder in writing. Once furniture is installed, problems are harder to spot and to get fixed.
- Walls and ceilings: cracks, dampness or seepage, especially around bathrooms and on external walls.
- Plumbing: water pressure, leaks under sinks, drainage in every bathroom and balcony.
- Electricals: every switch and socket, the distribution board, and the sanctioned load.
- Doors and windows: alignment, locks, gaps that let in dust, and window seals.
- Flooring and tiles: hollow-sounding tiles, chipped edges, uneven levels.
- Measurements: check that room sizes match the plan you were sold.
Step 2: Understand your society’s rules
Most NCR societies have rules for interior work. Ask the maintenance office early about:
- Permission or NOC needed before work starts, and any refundable deposit.
- Permitted working hours and days (many societies restrict Sundays and evenings).
- Rules for lift use, material delivery and debris disposal.
- Restrictions on changes to balconies, façades, windows or structural walls.
- Worker entry passes and security registration.
Step 3: Measure and plan
Your designer will do a detailed site measurement, but it helps to know the essentials yourself: room sizes, ceiling height, window positions, beams, columns, and the location of every water and electrical point. Decide early how each room will be used — especially the second or third bedroom.
Our 2 BHK planning guide walks through this room by room.
Step 4: Fix services before furniture
- Electrical changes — extra points, AC and geyser points, TV wall wiring, kitchen appliance points.
- Plumbing changes — water purifier, washing machine, kitchen and utility points.
- Civil work — any tiling, kitchen platform removal, or bathroom upgrades.
- AC piping and chimney duct routes.
- False ceiling framing — only after the above are final. See false ceiling design and cost.
- Modular kitchen and wardrobes, then painting, then loose furniture.
Step 5: Budget and timeline
Set a total budget that includes interiors, appliances, loose furniture and society charges. Our home interior cost guide shows typical ranges, and the cost calculator gives a quick estimate. A complete 2 or 3 BHK typically takes 45–60 days from design sign-off, so plan your move-in date accordingly.
Step 6: Choose your designer carefully
Ask for an itemised quotation, written material specifications and milestone-linked payments. Our guide on how to choose an interior designer lists the questions to ask. When you are ready, book a free consultation — we work across Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and the rest of NCR.
